Accessibility statement

What we have done to make our website accessible and areas we would still like to test and improve by speaking to our audience. 

The accessibility of our website

At Sigma, we are committed to making our online experience as inclusive as possible.

We consider accessibility already a priority and have worked to make sure our website meets Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

We aim for conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) Version 2.1. Our website currently is partially compliant with the WCAG version 2.1 AA standard and also meets some of the criteria for AAA. We have identified areas where we could improve it further below and we will continue to gather feedback from our audience.

You may be aware that research suggests 20% of the UK’s population have a disability of some kind or level. This group with diverse needs have as much of an equal right to access online experiences as anyone else.

What some may forget to consider are those who do not identify as disabled, or are yet to be diagnosed with a disability or impairment of some kind. Also, identifying the difference between having an impairment and a disability – are they the same, are they different? By designing with accessibility in mind, this not only includes the population who are disabled, but the growing number of people with access needs.

Areas we'd like to improve

There are some videos on the site for which we have provided captions and text transcripts. We haven't provided sign language or audio-only versions for the content. Some of the videos from our Camp Digital events don't have transcripts. Where we add new content of that type, we will look at providing extended descriptions and media alternatives.

There may be some further improvement we'd like to test around line height and text spacing to ensure content is accessible.

We haven’t provided a breadcrumb or search tool on the site but we have included a sitemap and the structure of the site has a relatively simple hierarchy. 

We have performed reading level tests on all site content but some of the pages do contain business and technical language that could be complex to some users. This includes occasional use of abbreviations and technical terminology. 

There are very few forms on the site and where we use them for data capture, they are short and all input fields are clearly labelled. If we changed them or user more complex forms, we would revisit the need for input assistance and greater error prevention measures. 

As a user centred organisation, we strive to address any issues found on our website. If you have found it difficult to access our website for whatever reason, please let us know.
